From 1928 to 1932, the Graf Zeppelin undertook a series of experimental and demonstrative endeavors, paving the path for future transatlantic passenger services.

The airship embarked on its first long-distance journey in 1928, crossing the Atlantic to reach the United States. Demonstrations flights afterwards showcased its impressive capabilities, such as circumnavigating the globe in 1929 and flying from Europe to Pan America in 1930. In 1931, the Graf Zeppelin also went on a polar expedition and made two round trips to the Middle East, along with other European expeditions.

In 1932, the Graf Zeppelin began regular scheduled operations for passengers, mail, and cargo between Germany and Brazil. However, on May 7, 1937, tragedy struck with the loss of the Hindenburg, leading to the withdrawal of the Graf Zeppelin from active service.

The Graf Zeppelin achieved a remarkable career, covering an astounding 1,056,000 miles and earning its place in aviation history as the first aircraft to surpass a million miles. It completed a total of 590 flights and 144 oceanic crossings, 143 of which were across the Atlantic and one across the Pacific. The airship safely transported an impressive 13,110 passengers without any harm. Unfortunately, in 1940, the Graf Zeppelin was dismantled and met its end.
