Sandra Mouawad, a remarkable and incredibly generous Lebanese woman, has become a shining beacon of hope for stray dogs and cats roaming the streets.
Her unwavering dedication to rescuing these helpless creatures has touched the hearts of many, and recently, she took the time to share her inspiring mission with The Dodo.
Mouawad embarked on her extraordinary journey by making a monumental decision – she quit her job to commit herself fully to animal rescue. She had a simple plan in mind: to save one animal at a time. Little did she know that her passion would soon fill her home with countless furry companions.
At first, her parents were bewildered by her actions, questioning her sanity. However, witnessing the incredible transformation she brought about in these animals, their doubt transformed into admiration and support.
Driven by an ardent love for felines, Mouawad established her very own cat shelter, a safe haven where these graceful creatures could find solace and care. Although she still rescues dogs, her heart was captivated by the enchanting charm of cats.
“A lot of wonderful individuals have opened dog shelters in Lebanon,” Mouawad shared, “but my love for cats was so profound that I yearned to create a nurturing home for them, rescuing as many as possible.”
Mouawad’s tireless efforts extend beyond the realm of rescuing healthy animals. In fact, she has become a guardian angel for injured and special needs animals, providing them with the specialized care they require.
However, undertaking such a noble task comes with its own set of challenges. Financial constraints often hinder her ability to give these animals the care they need and deserve. Thus, she relies on the kindness and generosity of donors to ensure that no innocent life is left uncared for.
Lebanon, with its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, unfortunately harbors a dark side – the mistreatment and neglect of animals. Mouawad’s work shines a light on this heartbreaking reality, highlighting the urgent need for change.
Many animal advocates and organizations across Lebanon strive to rescue and heal these suffering animals, but their efforts are often hampered by the lack of resources and support.
Sandra Mouawad’s unwavering commitment to easing the plight of abused and neglected animals is nothing short of extraordinary. Her selflessness and determination serve as a beacon of hope for not only the animals she rescues but also for the entire community.
We can all learn from her compassionate spirit and come together to support the cause, ensuring that every animal in Lebanon finds love, care, and a chance at a better life.
