The initial 1971 Pantera models featured a 5.8 L (351 cu in) Ford Cleveland V8 engine with 335 PS (246 kW; 330 hp) power output. The considerable torque from the Ford engine minimized the requirement for frequent gear shifts at low speeds, making the car more user-friendly in urban environments compared to other cars produced locally.
According to Car and Driver, the 1971 Pantera could reach 97 km/h (60 mph) in just 5.5 seconds.
