Step aside, lions and tigers, as a new predator reigns supreme with impressive hunting abilities. Meet the mantis, a deceptive critter that seamlessly blends into its surroundings, rendering itself invisible. Fortunately, wildlife photographer Pang Way has skillfully captured these elusive creatures in their full splendor, and they are truly a sight to behold.

Way’s fascination with mantises started with their prayerful-looking front legs. However, despite their spiritual appearance, these insects are formidable predators. They possess triangular heads, can swivel their necks 180 degrees, and have eyes located both in the front and back of their heads. Their front legs are also spiked, which would make even Freddy Krueger envious.
Way successfully gets up close and personal with these small monsters through his exceptional patience and stealthy skills. Despite the mantises’ camouflage, Way’s sharp vision and fast reflexes enable him to capture them while they hunt their prey. The swift movement of their legs appears in slow motion, resembling a scene from a movie. Witnessing the mantis massacre is satisfying, and we crave more.
When in nature, beware of these devout hunters. Although diminutive, they possess a lethal sting. If you chance upon one, offer a prayer for your safety, as their spines may deploy unexpectedly.
