The world’s first Porsche, called the “Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model” or P1, premiered on Vienna streets on June 26, 1898. This significant automobile, created by Ferdinand Porsche, had been kept in an Austrian shed since 1902.

The P1 had a battery weighing over 1,000 pounds, making the vehicle weigh almost 3,000 pounds. It could achieve speeds of up to 22 mph with a range of 50 miles.

In 2014, the P1 was found in an Austrian shed in excellent condition. While the batteries, seats, and parts of the bodywork were absent, the engine remained operational. The steering wheel, dashboard, and wheels, meticulously crafted, had withstood the passage of time.

The P1 is exhibited at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Blue translucent plastic has been inserted to give visitors a sense of the original seating, though the bright color may not accurately represent the original appearance.
