Nolan Bushnell, Atari’s founder, sold the company to Warner Communications in 1976. Following the video game collapse of 1983, Warner renamed the company Atari Corporation and sold its divisions for home computers and video game consoles to Jack Tramiel, the former founder of Commodore. Warner retained Atari’s coin-operated game business, which remained known as Atari Games.
