Director Francis Ford Coppola shared footage of Al Pacino auditioning for the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather. Pacino was initially deemed too short and scruffy. Coppola got him a haircut and dressed him more formally, but then he was criticized for losing his natural appeal. Despite efforts to clean him up, it seemed they didn’t want Al for the role regardless of his appearance. Coppola’s wife gave him the first haircut, and a local barber had a heart attack when he found out it was for a “Godfather” actor. (The barber really had a heart-attack and was taken off to hospital afterwards).
