Creating Edible Art: Tokyo Illustrator Turns Sushi Rolls into Masterpieces

Tokyo-based illustrator Takayo Kiyota, also known as Tama-chan, has been creating miniature art using rice and seaweed for 15 years. She wondered if it was possible to make a new type of edible art by using the traditional sushi roll technique. Her works vary and feature famous paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo. Kiyota believes that drawing on rice is a unique form of expression for the Japanese people, as rice holds significant importance in their culture.
