The Sky Mountain Pavilion in Hainan, China, designed by Sou Fujimoto, has been completed. The structure rests on a peaceful seaside section of the popular tourist destination and flawlessly merges with the natural surroundings, appearing as a “mountain in the sky.”
The white, cloud-like rings that surround the building slope gracefully, imitating a jellyfish, while the outdoor greenery space in the center continues the circular design, similar to an eye gazing towards the sky. Fujimoto intentionally positioned the building to face west, creating a magnificent location to observe the sea’s sunset. The interior public areas, spanning approximately 800 square meters, provide space for bookshops, cafes, seasonal exhibitions, and other events. The new development, the second coastal pavilion in the Haikou Bay area, aims to establish a harmonious relationship between constructed environments and the natural world.
