In 1976, a distinctive dining experience began in the heart of New York City. Located on the 107th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, Windows on the World welcomed the public. The restaurant swiftly became renowned for its floor-to-ceiling windows that provided stunning views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey.

Windows on the World was not just a restaurant with a view, but a culinary journey that transported diners worldwide. Its menu showcased dishes from all corners of the globe, complemented by a staff representing diverse cultures.

Windows on the World was a one-of-a-kind date spot, thanks to its celestial views and adventurous menu. Its chic ambiance and unique offerings were unmatched.

However, this iconic establishment tragically met its end when Windows on the World was destroyed on September 11, 2001. The fateful morning claimed the lives of all 72 restaurant staff, 76 guests, and other workers. Among the victims was the executive director of the Port Authority, who was having breakfast during the attacks.

Some consider Jonathan Briley, an audio technician at Windows on the World, to be “The Falling Man,” a haunting image from that day.

Former staff members opened a restaurant named Colors in Manhattan in 2006 to honor their fallen colleagues from Windows on the World.
